Terms of Use

Last updated: 13 June 2026

These terms of use govern the use of the NewsMapp mobile app and this website (newsmapp.de). By registering or using the service you agree to these terms. The German version is authoritative.

1. Provider & scope

The provider is Tammo Ahnfeldt (contact details in the legal notice). These terms apply to all users of the app and the website.

2. Description of the service

NewsMapp displays current news pinned to an interactive map and lets you filter by topic, time range and keyword. The app is provided free of charge and ad-free. There is no claim to a specific feature set or the permanent availability of individual features.

3. Licence to use

We grant you a simple, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use the app for your private, non-commercial purposes on the devices you control. All rights in the app, its source code, design and own content (excluding the third-party news content) remain with us. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer or make the app available to third parties, except where mandatory law permits.

4. Registration, account & minimum age

An account with email address and password is required. You must provide accurate information, keep your credentials confidential and not share them with third parties. Use is permitted from the age of 16; younger persons may use the app only with the consent of their parents/guardians.

5. User obligations

You agree not to misuse the app. In particular, you will not perform automated requests (e.g. scraping), circumvent security measures, infringe third-party rights, or upload unlawful, offensive or copyrighted content (e.g. as a profile photo). In the event of violations we may temporarily suspend or permanently remove your account.

6. Third-party content (The New York Times)

The news content shown is provided by The New York Times (Top Stories API). We accept no liability for the accuracy, completeness or timeliness of this content; the respective provider is responsible. NewsMapp is an independent app and is not affiliated with The New York Times Company.

7. Availability & changes to the service

We strive for stable operation but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability (e.g. due to maintenance, technical faults or changes at third-party providers). We reserve the right to develop, restrict or discontinue the service.

8. Liability

We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence as well as for injury to life, body or health. For slight negligence we are liable only for the breach of an essential contractual obligation (cardinal obligation), the fulfilment of which makes the proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on whose compliance you may regularly rely; in such cases liability is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for the contract. Any further liability is excluded. Liability under the German Product Liability Act remains unaffected.

9. Term, suspension & account deletion

You may terminate your account at any time without giving reasons, via "Delete profile" in the app; the associated data is then permanently removed. We may terminate the usage relationship in the event of serious or repeated breaches of these terms.

10. Changes to these terms

We may amend these terms where required for legal or technical reasons or where the feature set is extended. We will notify you of material changes in an appropriate manner. The current version published here applies.

11. Governing law & final provisions

The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods; mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence remain unaffected. Should any provision be invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions is unaffected.

Our privacy policy and legal notice apply in addition.
